St Cecilia Chorus
2010-2011 Concert Season
St. Cecilia Chorus will be celebrating the patron saint of music from whom they take their name in their first concert of the new season, on 20th November. Music Director Jonathan Rennert will be leading the Chorus in Purcell's 'Hail, Bright Cecilia' Ode and Ian le Grice's 'Ode to St Cecilia', after Bach's well-loved Advent Cantata 'Wachet Auf'. Following a Christmas concert of traditional seasonal works, the next event in April, 2011 will be a semi-staged performance of Handel's mighty oratorio 'Samson', in Epsom College's Big School, and the season will close next June with Schubert's Mass in G.
Workshop for Singers
The season however starts off with a Workshop in Banstead, Surrey, on Saturday 16th October which is open to all singers. We will be rehearsing and then performing works by Fissinger and Camilleri as well as Haydn, giving singers the opportunity to sample lesser-known choral works. Details will be available here shortly. Our workshops are popular, not to mention the free home-made cakes available all day!
St Cecilia News:
The Choir's trip to Germany in May 2010, in the footsteps of Bach, was a great success and we managed to travel to Leipzig, Dresden, Eisenach, Mühlhausen and Arnstadt in four days, visiting and performing in various 'Bach' Churches. Read our trip diary here.
St Cecilia Chorus welcomes new singers, and this year we especially would like to hear from Sopranos. Whatever your voice, please contact our Secretary, Bery Radford secretary@stceciliachorus.org.uk if you would like to come along to a rehearsal or two to try us out. We rehearse on Thursday evenings in Banstead, Surrey.
